Little-Known Fact: The Mar-a-Lago Club

Trump properties are known for their historical attributes, but what is most intriguing is that these historical elements hold deep secrets that not many are aware of.

An interesting fact from the Cold War era are the three bomb shelters that were built at Mar-a-Lago during the Korean War in the early 1950s. They were installed by original owner Marjorie Merriweather Post, who built Mar-a-Lago along with her husband, E.F. Hutton. They are hidden in the hedges of the property and are currently used by Mar-a-Lago’s restoration expert as a workspace and for storage. Included in the storage are historic maps, sculpture molds, and a variety of artifacts of interest.

This is not the only bomb shelter in Florida. The Kennedy family owned an estate less than two miles from Mar-a-Lago, where JFK vacationed. When John F. Kennedy became President in 1961, a secret nuclear shelter and command post was built by the military on Peanut Island on the mouth of the Lake Worth Inlet in Palm Beach County.
