Introducing The Vaults at 40 Wall Street

Tucked away in one of the most iconic buildings in all of Manhattan and only steps from the New York Stock Exchange are the newly designed Vaults at 40 Wall Street. The Vaults at 40 Wall Street, once the largest in the world, were once responsible for safeguarding enormous amounts of currency, gold, precious metals and safety deposit boxes for the largest financial institutions and the Nation’s wealthiest individuals through World War II and beyond.

Erected by the Manhattan Company, this 72-story building was originally known as the Bank of Manhattan Trust Building which later merged to become J.P. Morgan Chase. Completely impenetrable with doors weighing in excess of 10 tons, the Vaults were designed by Harold Craig Severance and constructed into the foundation prior to the completion of this landmark building in May of 1930.

Today, with over 1.3 million square feet of class-A office space, 40 Wall Street stands as one of the greatest real estate deals in the fascinating history of the Trump Organization. And out of the many developments that have taken place since our company acquired this landmark building, perhaps the most thrilling is the reconceptualized Vaults.

The Concept

Every year our Executive Vice President of the Trump Organization, Eric Trump, conducts countless visits to our properties around the globe during which he explores every inch of every space, even down to the engineering and storage rooms. It was during one of these walkthroughs that the inspiration for the fully reimagined Vaults at 40 Wall came to be. The storied building was flush with tenants and with a seasoned team of building associates in place, it was the perfect time to begin creating a common area where tenants and guests could work, unwind, entertain or simply come together in an impressive setting.

Behind the Design

Eric quickly tapped the Trump Organization’s Design and Construction team to get to work on a plan to transform the Vaults into a world-class amenity space for tenants to enjoy. What began as a giant blank canvas, equipped with magnificent steel doors, is now a gorgeous collaborative workspace and lounge featuring two fully-equipped conference rooms, a café, game room, wine room and multimedia room. The Vaults are incredibly unique in that they are both functional and a celebration of the building’s rich history with many aspects of the original structure woven into the details. From the original vault doors that you see in the wine room to the old stock bonds that were curated and framed throughout and to the Italian marble slabs and original marble flooring, our incredibly talented team made sure no detail was overlooked.

In the Details

  • The "green as money" tile in the bathrooms was selected to emulate dollar bills both in size and color.
  • Trump Winery wine barrels were taken apart and sent to a carpenter to mill down for the wood ceiling detail in the wine room.
  • All existing gates from the space were revived back to their original finish and left in place.
  • Hand-painted stencil signage can be found throughout the space to emulate the style of the early 1900s.
  • All of the original ceiling details were maintained. The light fixtures that were originally in the space were rewired and polished in place and currently serve as the main source of light inside the vaults.
  • The "bank teller" area, now transformed into a bar, contains a mix of beautifully maintained accessories and newer period-specific treasures.
  • The original blueprints of the vault floors were restored and framed.
